Smarter choices. Less waste. #InterregVlaanderen-Nederland
Every single day, tons of perfectly good food are thrown away because shelves are empty too soon, or not soon enough. Why? Because decisions around pricing and stock are often still based on gut feeling, rather than data.
Together with Dutch data company Captain, we’re building intelligent AI models that help suppliers and retailers align smarter — and waste less.
The problem: too much instinct, not enough insight
Let’s face it: the food industry is overflowing with data. But most of it sits unused. Or worse, is misunderstood. Retailers and suppliers try to navigate promotions, pricing, and stock levels based on rules of thumb, old habits, or intuition. That’s not good enough anymore.
“Retail is detail” — and so is food logistics. From seasonal shifts to promo effects, every little data point matters. That’s where we come in.
Our approach: smarter pricing, sharper forecasts
Captain already built a powerful platform that helps suppliers collaborate with retailers via a smart (AI) data assistant. But there was one piece missing: intelligent pricing and forecasting models to predict the real impact of pricing decisions on demand.
That’s where we bring our firepower.
With years of experience in retail AI — from fashion to FMCG — we know how to model demand with both internal data and external signals. In fashion, our models already helped reduce overstock by over 10%. In food, where shelf life is short and pressure is high, the impact could be even greater.
This project, backed by CrossRoads Vlaanderen-Nederland and several key players in FMCG, is about more than just tech. It’s about building a smarter, cleaner, more efficient food supply chain. One where decisions are guided by insight, not instinct.
